Cards In The Post is hoping to bring about a revival in travellers sending traditional postcards home by making it as easy as updating your social media profile.

The UK company is working on the basis that writing a postcard is too much effort for too little reward so is enabling travellers to do it via their mobile phone.

Cards In The Post works with existing social networks including Facebook and Instagram and users don’t need to download anything or create an account.

They just choose a picture, write a message, add a name and address and pay for postage.

Mintel research from June 2012 shows just 3% of Britons sent a postcard last year compared to more than 30% in the early 70s.

The initiative is from Electric Animal – a two-man technology company based at Google Campus in London.
