Hamilton Island, located off the Queensland coast of Australia, has scored a winner on Instagram when trying to market the destination to travelers.
The Island threw open a contest where Instagram users were asked to send pictures that best represents the idea of the perfect holiday.
Winners were shortlisted by those behind the campaign and will be participating in what is known as the “Ultimate Instameet: Return2Paradise” event over the course of the next few days.
Hamilton Island’s YouTube documentary from the inaugural Ultimate Instameet last November shows some of the best Instagrammers from Australia and America experiencing the Island for the first time.
The interesting part comes in the extension of project around the wider Instagram community.
The group captured just 650+ photos over one weekend, but more than 50 of these subsequently appeared in the photo-sharing network’s highly sought after ‘”Popular” page, appearing in the feed of 100 million active users’.
The Instameet photos eventually received over 850,000 likes, and attracted around 17,500 comments.
Since launching the inaugural Ultimate Instameet last October, Hamilton Island’s Instagram followers have increased by over 3,000% from a modest 269 followers to 8,500+ and are growing steadily.
